Big Agnes System Bags

The Big Agnes System is different than the traditional sleeping bag on top of a sleeping pad. Instead, we unite the two. With Big Agnes, the pad slides into an integrated sleeve on the bottom of the bag, and the top two-thirds of the bag is insulated in the traditional style. When insulation material is compressed under your body, it loses most of its ability to insulate. We eliminate the unnecessary bottom insulation and replace it with a sleeve to accommodate the pad which provides the insulation. This design provides a secure foundation and keeps you on the pad all night.

While down bags generally cost more and require more care to keep dry in humid conditions, the soft feel of down is unsurpassed and extremely popular.

Insotect Flow™ is a flow-optimized insulation system that delivers uniform heat distribution and natural bodycontouring through its revolutionary baffle design.
Uniform Heat Distribution Conventionally baffled systems heat your body one baffle chamber at a time. Insotect Flow's advanced body-heat management system rapidly transfers heat from the core of your body to your extremities for uniform warmth and comfort.
Natural Body Contouring Insotect Flow™ naturally contours your body to limit excess bulk and allow your insulation to be held closer to your skin.

Vertical Thermal Channels™ (VTC™) VTC™ enhances the rapid transfer and uniform distribution of your body heat over the entire length of your body. Unlike conventionally baffled systems, this technology frees your insulation to flow with your body - not against it. This removes horizontal baffle heat barriers and improves body fit.
FlowGate™ FlowGate™ technology uses "swinging gates" and the power of positive pressure created by your insulation to virtually lock your insulation in place, eliminating cold spots, and allowing your body heat to flow. This technology was also found to reduce baffle material requirements for less waste and a lighter weight compared to conventional baffle systems.

Down Insulation

Down sleeping bag insulation has long been the favorite of weight conscious backpackers, thru-hikers, and mountaineers due to its relative light weight and ability to packdown small. While down bags generally cost more and require more care to keep dry in humid conditions, the soft feel of down is unsurpassed and extremely popular.

Down fill power is rated according to the number of cubic inches one ounce of down will occupy. For example, if one ounce of down takes up a volume of 650 cubic inches, it is given a 650 fill power rating. In sleeping bags, this volume determines the loft of your bag. Higher fill power down yields greater loft and requires fewer ounces of down to create insulating warmth as compared to a lower fill power. Thus, down warmth is a function of both fill power and the amount of fill. We use down rated from 600-800 fill power in our sleeping bags.

Synthetic Technologies

Synthetic sleeping bag insulation is ideal for general camping and backpacking due to its durability, value and ability to insulate even when wet. Synthetic bags won't pack as small as down bags but they still compress to acceptable sizes for backpacking and thru-hiking and will generally cost less.

Quilted Construction

Quilted construction is a simple and lightweight technique used in our warmest weather sleeping bags. In this method the shell materials are stitched all the way through with the insulation sandwiched between, similar to a quilt for your bed.

A-Flex Construction

A-Flex™ A synthetic construction technique which combines layers of 'flexed' insulation with smaller 'anchor' pieces to connect them. The 'flexed' layers increase loft and trapped air space and the 'anchors' maximize heat containment by eliminating gapping and creating more air pockets.

The ultra-fine fibers of PrimaLoft® insulation form a tight collection of air pockets that trap heat from the body and keep the cold out, providing an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio. When traditional insulation gets wet, it loses these air pockets and its insulating properties. PrimaLoft® is developed to be water resistant so insulation stays drier and maintains its insulating properties. The fibers create a tight surface tension that won’t allow water to pass through the insulation. Specifically developed fiber finishes repel water and keep the insulation drier, even in wet conditions.

DAC NSL Tent Poles

DAC poles featuring DAC's new Green Anodizing™ process and we incorporate these poles and Green Anodized J Stakes in our tent line. Tent poles are shiny and smooth because of the chemical polishing stage in the anodizing process, which requires two very toxic chemicals, phosphoric and nitric acid. DAC has perfected a better process that is safer for our environment and its employees by eliminating the need for the polishing stage and these two hazardous chemicals. Additionally, they significantly reduce waste water by recycling water throughout the rinsing process.
