What’s in a Name?
Thorpe Mountain was named after Samuel Thorpe who owned a ranch on the land in the mid 1880's. Ute Indians camped and hunted the area in the mid 1870's previous to Thrope's arrival. The mountain separates the Oak Creek area from the Morrison Creek region, south of Steamboat Springs.
