What’s in a Name?
River rats might think this name refers to a Class III rapid on a stretch of the upper Colorado near Pumphouse. But in this case, Yarmony refers to the park located in the extreme southeast corner of Routt County. Named for Yahmonite, a Ute sub-chief in the late 1870’s and 1880’s who befriended many early settlers to the area. Yahmonite’s name was shortened to Yarmony by some of the area residents.
