What's in a Name?
The Larkspur plant, a member of the buttercup family, is found all over the trails in the Rocky Mountains. Although the plant is toxic, it was traditionally used for dyes and insect repellent by native tribes. According to legend it was also used to anoint warriors going into battle for protection. The dried larkspur flowers were commonly found hanging around homes to keep occupants protected.
