Riding the Colorado Trail
November 5, 2014
Sometimes the most challenging and arduous adventure is the one in your own backyard. The Colorado Trail spans over 500 miles through the rugged and scenic alpine wilderness from Denver to Durango. Once summer rolls around, the trail clears of snow and those daring enough to attempt a through-ride set out into the unknown. This past summer a group of Colorado based Yeti Ambassadors set out to give it a go for themselves. Heading the charge was Olympic snowboard athlete Justin Reiter, along with good friends Craig Jones, Joey Schusler, and Sam Seward. Big Agnes was honored to sponsor the team as they encountered deep snow, high mountain passes, pristine single track, and views beautiful enough to convince all parties involved to never leave Colorado again. Alpine Biking the ‘Boat
October 21, 2014
Mountain Magazine with Swami’s Fat Tire Testers rallied to meet bike test directors from Breck Bike Guides in Steamboat Springs, Colorado for their first purist’s dream of an Alpine Mountain Biking Test. Steamboat’s Big Agnes set them up with tents, bags, and pads and an amazing base camp at the Dry Lake campground on Buff Pass. Steamboat’s Honey Stinger supplied the waffles and energy gels. And the town and resort of Steamboat offered up their incredible trail network. Somehow they even threw in peak foliage (a week later than scheduled), short sleeve riding conditions, and rainbows. (What? No butterflies and puppies?) Envision loamy, purpose-built singletrack beneath a canopy of golden aspens and you’re getting warmer. Now ride faster and hoot and holler a bit. That’s Alpine Mountain Biking. —Marc Peruzzi/Photography by Dave Cox Look for the full test results and all the inside information on riding Steamboat in their Early Summer Gear Guide, coming June 2015. Scout UL2 wins Backpacker Magazine's 2013 Editors' Choice Award
March 5, 2013
Big Agnes’ Scout UL2 tent has been honored as a recipient of a 2013 Backpacker magazine Editors’ Choice Award, one of the most prestigious awards in the outdoor industry, given annually to products in recognition of their outstanding innovation in design, materials and/or performance. Backpacker Editor-in-Chief Dennis Lewon and his staff of editors and testers presented Big Agnes with the award at the annual Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 24. The Backpacker Editors’ Choice Awards, bestowed annually since 1993, honor the products that Backpacker editors have chosen as the best of the year based on months of trail testing by teams of highly experienced hikers and climbers. With no set categories for the awards and no set number of recipients, the products and the testing process drive the award categories. Big Agnes’ Scout UL2 tent was one of 15 innovative products that have been honored with a 2012 Backpacker Editors’ Choice Award. The new Scout UL2 tent is a new-school A-framed tent with ample floor space for two people. The single-walled tent requires trekking poles for support and weighs only 1lbs 9oz. The Scout UL2 retails for $279.95 and will be available this spring. "BACKPACKER gear reviews set the benchmark by which all others are measured," said Editor-in-Chief Dennis Lewon. "That's because no other magazine or website conducts field-testing as rigorously or impartially as the crew led by Gear Editor Kristin Hostetter. Our core testers each have years of backcountry experience and expertise in multiple pursuits, from climbing to paddling to skiing. Under Kristin’s leadership, they put new products through punishing real-world abuse in the toughest terrain and worst weather. She also oversees a transparent process that has earned an unrivaled level of trust from readers, retailers, and manufacturers. The result? Best-in-class reviews that lead consumers to best-in-class gear." “Big Agnes is honored to be recognized by Backpacker for our Scout UL2 tent. To be surrounded by such great competition and come out on top with the 2013 Editors’ Choice is something that makes everyone at Big Agnes proud,” says Bill Gamber, Big Agnes co-founder and president. The Backpacker Editors’ Choice Awards are the gold standard against which all outdoor products are measured, and are a seal of approval that can help put an outdoor company or product on the proverbial map. Each year at the Outdoor Retailer show, retail buyers use the awards announcements as a must-buy shopping list, knowing that their customers will be asking for these products in the spring.

Fly Creek Platinum named one of Outside Magazine's Best Cycling Products of 2012
January 2, 2013
for the entire article, see http://www.outsideonline.com/blog/the-11-best-cycling-products-of-2012.html Year in Review: The 11 Best Cycling Products of 2012 By The Cycle Life We test bike gear year-round at Outside, from our desert test trip in January and endurance races like the Arizona Trail Race, Breck Epic, and Triple Bypass, to daily road and trail rides here in Santa Fe (including snow biking just this week). In the process, we beat the bejeezus out of lots of gear, and while much of it these days is very good, there are often a handful of items that we come back to again and again. With our 2013 test trip to Tucson coming up next week, we decided this was the perfect moment to highlight the top pieces of bike gear that impressed us most in 2012. 08. BIG AGNES FLY CREEK UL PLATINUM TENT A tent might seem like an odd choice for best bike gear of the year, but Big Agnes' featherweight shelter has transformed our bikepacking experience. Constructed of ultralight silicone treated ripstop and a ridiculous amount of mesh, it feels diminutive verging on flimsy when packed but sets up so strong and solid that it has gotten us through a couple of all night high-altitude thunderstorms. Full pack weight is just over two pounds—ridiculously light for a shelter that comfortably sleeps two people, including a vestibule for gear—and if you're really going barebones you trim down to just one pound, seven ounces with just the pole, footprint, and fly. Either way, the tent easily straps onto MTB handlebars and is so trim and light that it doesn't feel like an impediment at all. If bikepacking were more popular, this would be our top gear pick for the year. It's an absolute stunning piece of engineering. —Aaron Gulley
National Geographic Adventure Gear of the Year award for McAlpin
October 25, 2012
National Geographic Adventure has named the zero-degree Big Agnes McAlpin SL sleeping bag, featuring DownTek™ water repellent down insulation, as a 2012 Gear of the Year award recipient.
“DownTek™ water repellent down will change the way that people who sleep in the dirt think about sleeping bag insulation,” says Big Agnes co-founder and president, Bill Gamber. “We’ve had tremendous interest in our new traditional mummy bags so it’s wild to have the McAlpin recognized by National Geographic Adventure as one of the top products of the year.”
DownTek™ is a proprietary nanotechnology treatment for down that makes it water repellant, anti-microbial and anti-bacterial. Even in the wettest of conditions, DownTek™ repels water while maintaining loft, insulation value and breathability. DownTek™ is free of both Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS).
In addition to improved water repellency, the McAlpin SL features Insotect Flow™ construction which delivers uniform heat distribution and natural body contouring through its vertical baffle design. These continuous Vertical Thermal Channels™ eliminate potential cold spots and encourage rapid and uniform body heat distribution.
Known for its integrated sleeping bag and pad systems, Big Agnes has expanded its sleeping bag options and now offers traditional mummy sleeping bags. The McAlpin SL is one of ten traditional mummy sleeping bags offered by Big Agnes in 2013. The McAlpin SL (along with the Bellyache Mountain SL, women’s Lithia Spring SL and women’s Juniper SL) is currently available at select REI locations and www.rei.com.

December 10, 2009
Big Agnes® Inc., maker of innovative sleeping bags, pads and tents, has been awarded Men’s Journal “Best Gear of the Year” for the company’s Tumble Mountain 20° sleeping bag. Awarded products are selected by Men’s Journal editors with the end goal being to offer consumers insight on the most innovative new products for 2010.
“We are honored to receive the Men’s Journal award for the Tumble Mountain,” says Big Agnes co-founder, Bill Gamber. “Being recognized at the start of the new year for a product that just launched will not only help us gain exposure and recognition for the Tumble Mountain, but a host of other recycled products from Big Agnes’ Re-Routt Collection.”

Salt Creek 2 Recycled Tent Named Backpacker Editors' Choice Green
March 2, 2009
Big Agnes has been honored as a recipient of a 2009 Backpacker magazine Editors’ Choice Green Award, the most prestigious award in the outdoor industry, given annually to products in recognition of their outstanding innovation in design, materials and/or performance.
Backpacker Editor-In-Chief Jonathan Dorn and his staff of editors and testers presented Big Agnes with the award at the annual Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 22nd.
Big Agnes’ Salt Creek Recycled tent was one of only 19 innovative products that have been honored with a 2009 Backpacker Editors’ Choice Award and the only tent named Green. The new Salt Creek Recycled 2 is a free standing, three-season, backpacking tent made with 100% recycled polyester fly, floor and mesh materials and features recycled hardware.
“This year’s winners withstood the most rigorous testing process yet,” said Editor-In-Chief Jonathan Dorn. “Our test team started off with over 50 new products, narrowing them down to a final 25 after months of trail-testing. The finalists were then taken on extreme outdoor adventures both in the mountains and on the coast of Wales, enduring a streak of epic weather conditions from wind-whipped days to rain-soaked nights. In fact, three tents alone were destroyed on this trip. Those that survived have earned the distinction of becoming the 2009 Editors’ Choice Award Winners.”
“Big Agnes is honored to be recognized by Backpacker for our Salt Creek Recycled tent. To be surrounded by such great competition in the ‘green’ category and come out on top as the ‘Best All-Around Green Product’ is something that makes everyone at Big Agnes proud. We hope that our efforts with our Re-Routt collection spur other manufacturers to push the boundaries of what’s possible with green product in the future.”

November 10, 2006
Men's Journal magazine included the new Stagecoach Rolling Duffel as one of its Gear of the Year picks in the December, 2006 issue. Here's what they said;
"The first bag offered by Big Agnes, a well-respected tent and sleeping bag maker, the Stagecoach merges roller blade-style wheels with backpack straps, highly water-resistent fabric, waterproof zippers, and welded seams that rival a river guide's dry bag. Although we don't recommend submersing it if you don't have to, the 5,100-cu-in hauler is the first roller we've seen that can weather blizzards, hurricanes, or spilled margaritas."

Backpacker Picks Seedhouse SL2 as Top New-School Shelter
September 6, 2005
Backpacker magazine features an ultralight tent review, including the Seedhouse SL2, titled 'New-School Shelters' in the October, 2005 issue. The SL2 was awarded top score of all the tents reviewed. Here's what they had to say, "Freestanding, sturdy, and barely more than 3 pounds - tents like this are as rare as bikinis on Everest. It just doesn't get any lighter than this, not without sacrificing weather protection. The Seedhouse's single-hubbed pole/clip system sets up quickly without guesswork, and the taut pitch offers impressive stability. The solid pole structure, boosted by a few well-placed external guy lines, helped the Seedhouse stand strong in guys winds from Mt. Washington's Goat Rocks Wilderness to the southern Appalachians...." For the entire review please pick up a copy of Backpacker at your specialty outdoor retailer.
