Public Lands: Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante

Earlier this week, Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments lost protection of over nearly 3 million acres combined, about 90% of what had been safeguarded at each site.

This puts at risk over 100,000 ancestral sites at Bears Ears, the Tribal co-stewardship frameworks built to protect these lands, and the sustainable economies southern Utah communities depend on. Outdoor recreation already contributes $9.76 billion a year to Utah's economy.

Public lands aren't a partisan issue. 91% of Western voters support keeping monument designations in place, including strong majorities in Utah. We stand with the Tribal Nations and communities who've stewarded these places and should have a say in their future.
