Backpack Fit Guide

Backpack Fit Guide

Dial in your pack fit.

In this step-by-step guide, we'll walk you through the art of fitting your backpack like a pro. Follow these instructions to ensure your Big Agnes pack is snug, comfortable, and ready for your next adventure.

Step 1: Finding the Right Size

Start by determining the size of your backpack based on your torso length. Enlist the help of a friend and grab a tape measure. Follow these simple steps:

1.1. Locate your iliac crest, the top of your hip bone on the side of your body.

1.2. Identify the C7 vertebra on your neck, the bump at the base of your neck.

1.3. Measure the distance from your C7 straight down your spine to the line of your iliac crest, keeping the tape measure against your body. This measurement is your torso length.

Use this measurement to choose the right pack size. Big Agnes packs like the Parkview 63L and women's Garnet 60L feature the Load Wrangler Plus, allowing you to customize the fit based on your torso length.

Step 2: Fitting Your Backpack to Your Body

2.1. When putting on your backpack, ensure all adjustment straps are completely loosened.

2.2. Add 10 to 20 pounds of weight to the pack and strap it closed.

2.3. Start with the hip belt and work your way up.

2.4. Wrap the Open Range hip belt around your iliac crest, with the frontmost padding on top of your hip bone.

2.5. Buckle the hip belt and tighten evenly, aiming for about 80% of the pack's weight on your hips.

2.6. Tighten the shoulder straps, making sure they wrap around your shoulders with no gaps.

2.7. Adjust the load lifters at the top of the shoulder straps to a 45-degree angle for optimal weight distribution.

2.8. Secure the hip belt stabilizers for a custom fit that conforms to your body's shape.

2.9. Finally, adjust the sternum strap for additional shoulder strap security and stability.

Remember, the goal is comfort, and it may take some time to get it just right.

Big Agnes packs allow you to make custom adjustments on the trail for a comfortable hiking experience.

Gear up, hit the trail, and enjoy the journey with your perfectly fitted backpack!
