Friends of the Yampa Q+A

We sat down with Lindsey Marlow, the Executive Director of Friends of the Yampa, a non-profit organization located in our hometown of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Read the full article to hear all about the non-profit and how they contribute to our community.

Q: What is Friends of the Yampa?

A: Friends of the Yampa is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit watershed group based in Northwest Colorado who's mission is to protect and enhance the Yampa River and it's tributaries through education, stewardship, advocacy, and partnerships.

Q: How can people get involved with Friends of the Yampa?

A: Follow us on social (@friendsoftheyampa), our email newsletters, support the wild Yampa, volunteer for our many stewardship efforts and citizen science, and spread the word about how special the Yampa is and what our organization is doing.

Q: Where are your headquarters?

A: We are based in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, but our programs and efforts are throughout 7,660 square miles of watershed, including work in Moffat County and Dinosaur National Monument.

Q: What kind of precautions are taken to help manage the Yampa River?

A: Protection! Protection is key, the Yampa has a natural hydrograph and is relatively healthy and unique in the greater Colorado River Basin. There has been very little development in this basin and many look to this river as an example of ow a river should be managed, supporting a naturally vibrant environment as well as community and economy. In order to keep it that way, protecting the Yampa from degradation and development is important to ensure that the Yampa is protected from future impact as well as taking action to improve areas of the basin that need help. It's a big river and a big job, but we love and respect this amazing and special river so therefore it is a worthy cause.

Q: How will the new Grayling chair print help the foundation?

A: Helping spread the word about the Yampa River and our organization. Big Agnes reaches a large audience of outdoor lovers, and this beautiful chair is the start of a conversation about how everyone is contributing. It will also help fund the things we do, which is most needed! We appreciate Big Agnes supporting a local organization such as ours and giving where they are located.
